Skiing

With the kids having Monday and Tuesday off of school, Matt and I decided to be really daring and take our 3 older kids skiing. We heard about a great deal at Alta where you can go on one beginner lift for free from 3:00-4:30 everyday, and then the tow rope on the bunny hill is free. Since we didn't need any more than that we decided to try it. Besides the fact that Matt and I aren't exactly experienced skiiers and that are kids are still pretty young, we were most nervous because last time Matt went skiing (two years ago) he tore his ACL. Still we wouldn't have been so nervous if he had been going down a black diamond when he did it, but he wasn't!! But that's a story for another time! Despite all our nervousness, we figured the price of ski rentals (and discounted at that-thank you happenings book) was worth at least trying it! We rented our skis the night before we went so we let the kids try them on in our house, just to get the feel of it. Aren't those little skis cute?!!

Snow plowing is much easier on carpet!!

Alli surprised Matt and I the most. She caught on really quickly!

We found an ad on KSL of a guy who was having a ski sale in his garage on Monday, so we went to check it out. Although he had been doing it for 6 weeks and all the skiis were gone, we got 5 pairs of snow pants and 3 pairs of kids goggles for $8!!! I'm so glad we had those goggles!!!

Matt, Alli, Caden, and Taylor @ Alta Ski resort.

Alta got 18" of snow the night before and morning we went. Sweet!

Like I said before, Alli did the best, but as you can see she wrecked a lot. Notice all the snow stuck to the fur of her hood. We spent an hour and 1/2 on the tow rope which is enough to wear anyone out, but Alli and Caden both did really well. Taylor made it up by himself once, but the rest of the time he would end up getting dragged by it and lose his skiis, so Matt and I ended up towing him with us. Then we headed for the lift. Alli and I went on the lift a total of 3 times. Taylor went twice, and Caden and Matt went once. They all did so much better than I thought they would! Taylor didn't want any help the first time down until near the end. His second time down he skiied between my legs the whole way crying cause he was cold. Our third time up Alli decided she didn't want to do it anymore. I think she was finally getting cold and tired...but skiing was the only way down! On our last final hill she took quite a spill and got stuck in a big mound of powder. She lost a glove, and every time she tried to get out of the powder she seemed to sink more. By the time we got back to the car she was done!!! But so was the lift so it worked out perfectly. All in all we had such a fun time and I can't wait to take them again!!!
